Kellogg Memorial Church, Uttarakhand
The Kellogg’s Memorial Church is located at a distance of 5 km from the Library Bus Stand in Mussoorie. It is one of the historic architecture that stands tall for a long time at Kasmanda palace in Landour, Mussoorie.
The church had a high significance in the times bygone as it was built as a Presbyterian Church in 1903. The Kellog’s Memorial Church was also the home of the Landour Language School where the British used to learn Hindi while they were ruling India. The Church was named for Rev, Dr. Samuel H Kellogg (1839-1899). He was an American Presbyterian missionary and was very active in Landour. He was a great scholar, in the 19th century he wrote the best book of Hindi grammar in English for a better understanding of the language for the Britishers.
The Kellogg’s Church is a depiction of the Presbyterian style of architecture. It has a magnificent gothic-style architecture with several glass-stained windows. The Kellogg’s Memorial Church is a very famous tourist attraction and it also serves as a landmark in the Landour area of Mussoorie. The Landour Language School is still situated here and is still running. The tourists from all over the place like to visit it to have a glance at its exquisite architecture and get a glimpse of the history that The Kellogg’s Memorial Church has. It is located on the route of Laal Tibba.
History
The church is a Presbyterian church. This church was built in the year 1903. This church has been named after Rev. Dr. Samuel H Kellogg. They had run Landour language school here, where the British were taught the Hindi language. They on here wrote a book on the Grammar of Hindi in English. This church is built with gorgeous Gothic architecture and colorful glass windows with brownstone. This church is very beautifully constructed. Not only Christians but also people from all communities visit this church.
