Mussoorie Christ Church, Uttarakhand
The Christ Church is located at a distance of 0.6 km from the Library Bus Stand in Mussoorie. It is one of the first Catholic churches in the entire Himalayan region. It lies on a small hill-lock slightly above the Kasmanda Palace, Mussoorie. The church was built in 1836 by the British community who resided in Mussoorie at that time.
The Christ Church is reminiscent of the British Era in India; it gives a peek into the life of Jesus Christ and the times when the British have enslaved India. The massive structure of the Christ Church was established by private donations for the use of British Residents. The Christ Church was declared to be a part of the Church of North India on 29th November 1970.
The Christ Church has a very captivating and eye-catching architecture. You will find the brilliant gothic-styled architecture with stained glass windows that display the happenings in the life of Jesus Christ. When taking a look at the high altar, you will see it displaying the sufferings in the life of Jesus Christ. The British gave India a gift by designing the windows in a pre-Raphaelite style. The windows and the walls of the church are quite striking and very intriguing. The presence of a century-old William Hill organ makes the church have more significance in history as it represents the times bygone.
