Ranjangaon Ganpati Temple
Believed to be created by Lord Shiva, Ranjangaon is an important pilgrimage attraction in Maharashtra. The distinctive feature of the temple is its architecture; designed in such a way that during ‘Dakshinayan’ and ‘Uttarayan’ (movement of the sun to the south and north), the sun's rays fall directly on the deity. The sanctum of the temple, where one can see the idol of Ganesha in a sitting position with a trunk to the left, is believed to be created by Thorale Madhavrao Peshwa. People from all corners of the world throng the temple during the Bhadrapad Chaturthi festival.
An east-facing temple is easily noticeable because of its huge entrance, which has statues of Jay and Vijay. A unique aspect of the temple is that it is designed in such a way that during ‘Dakshinayan’ and ‘Uttarayan,’ the sun's rays fall directly on the deity. Equally beautiful is the sanctum, which was constructed by Thorale Madhavrao Peshwa. The idol of Lord Ganesha has an exceptionally broad forehead, ten trunks, and twenty arms, further flanked by the statues of Riddhi and Siddhi.
With such beautiful architecture and religious significance, Ranjangaon is a must-visit on a trip to Pune.
