Laxmi Narasimha Temple, Goa
As the list is growing, it seems like Goa is everything but temples. Laxmi Narasimha temple stands in contrast to other temples in Goa with its old charm. Known for the freshwater spring that fills the temple tank and amazingly detailed carvings, Laxmi Narasimha Temples is also among the old temples of Goa.
History
According to history, the original temple was built in the Sancole village of Salcete and the shrine was later shifted with other deities of Sri Vijayadurga and Sri Shanthadurga to its present location in the year 1567. The temple still has wooden bars relief and carvings. The paintings and carvings in the temple chowk depict Sri Narasimha Purana are beautiful and are worth seeing. The sanctum houses the idols of Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu and the atmosphere is calm and peaceful. The hall of the temple also displays the images of other incarnations of God Vishnu.
Architecture
The architecture of the temple is very old and as the roof of the temple still glitters like gold, the carvings are very intricate and still, there are wooden bars that take you back to the 18th century. The Mahajans of the temple belongs only to the Shankpinga Kutsa Gotra. One of the very interesting features of the temple is the presence of a fresh water spring that fills the temple tank. The steps at the tank allow you to take a dip in the waters. One can also see a musician’s gallery nearby.
