Shri Ananta Temple, Goa
Shri Ananta Temple at Savoi Verem is a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the second god of the Hindu Trinity, whose role is that of preservation, just as Brahma’s is of creation and Shiva’s is of dissolution. This is the only Ananta Temple in Goa and therefore of special interest. Surrounded by water and beautiful countryside, the aspect of the temple site inspires tranquility and peace. For village folk, the pilgrimage could be undertaken for exorcising spells as the belief is that the Lord has the power to do so.
History
The temple of Anant is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Ananta is the serpent on which Vishnu rests and is said to be the holder of the entire universe's weight. Goddess Shri Laxmi is sitting at the feet of Lord Vishnu. The idol of the deity is carved with black stone. Besides the main deity Anant Sheshashayi, the complex also has Shantadurga, Kamini, Narayan, and Grampurush temples.
Architecture
The structure of the temple is small and is quite inviting. The pillar decoration is very minute and full of intricate designs. The distinct structure of this temple is a two-story-high lamp tower. During festivals, the tower is decorated with oil lamps. Nearby the temple, there is a holy water tank that is used for rituals.
