Chand Minar

Chand Minar

If you’re keen on visiting historical places in Maharashtra, the Chand Minar is a sight that you absolutely cannot miss, primarily because this tall minaret forms the entrance to the fort. Chand Minar is the second largest minaret, built in the 15th century by Ala-ud-din Bahmani in honor of his victory over the fort and it is one of the most famous historical places in Maharashtra.

It was originally built to make fort-related announcements, and keep an eye on the enemies from the peak, soon after which it became a popular point for historians. The Chand Minar stands tall at 210 feet, housing 24 chambers divided across four storeys. There’s also a small mosque within, where you can seek blessings.

History

The amazing structure of the Chand Minar was built in 1435 by Ala-ud-din Bahmani to commemorate the victory over the Daulatabad Fort.

Architecture

Chand Minar is a great example of Turk-style architecture. This minar was built by Ala-ud-din Bahmani in 1435 after conquering the fort. The minaret is distinctly different. Its style of architecture is divided into four separate storeys, each featuring 24 small chambers along with a mosque. The mosque is at the base of the minaret which is built of blue tiles exported from Persia. The minar with its ornamented gigantic gates also houses the Chini Mahal where the last King of Golconda was imprisoned for over 13 years. The palace also holds the tomb of the king. The tunnel inside the fort along with the cannons within the palace makes it a remarkable destination for cultural enthusiasts.
