Noori Chamb Waterfall, Jammu And Kashmir
Even the Mughal Emperor Jehangir was blown away by the magnificence of this waterfall, so much so that he renamed it Noori Aabshar after the Mughal Queen Noor Jehan. It is said the queen used to bathe in these waters at least once every time she visited Kashmir. She even got a royal mirror fixed near the waterfall so that she and the king could watch it from their tent whenever they camped here. Now called the Noori Chamb in the local dialect, the gurgling waters of this waterfall used to descend from a height of 100 feet before natural erosion decreased the elevation to just 75 feet. But no matter what, this place still retains its breathtaking beauty.
What adds to the serenity of these falls is the fact that it isn’t easy to find. It is located in the middle of Behramgala and Chandimarh on Mughal Road, less than 45 km from the Poonch District of Kashmir. It is often called the ‘Milky Waterfall’ owing to the white-colored vapors that are formed at the base of this waterfall where the water is collected, giving this place a very dreamy look!
