Prashar Rishi Temple, Himachal Pradesh
The Prashar Rishi temple is situated along the Prashar lake in Himachal Pradesh. There are many mysterious stories that exist regarding the formation of this temple. The temple has been made after the famous epic, Mahabharat. According to the epic, the famous rishi Prashar meditated on the banks of this river. In the center of the river lies a floating island. The depth of this river has not been recorded yet by any diver. The temple is an attraction to many Hindus throughout the country and the world.
History
The temple has been constructed by King Ban Sen in the 13-14th century with the Rishi being present in the form of a Pindi (stone). It is also said that the whole temple was built by using a single deodar tree and it took 12 years to complete the temple construction.
Architecture
This wooden temple has a pagoda-style of architecture with intricate carvings of animals and serpents. As legend states, it is made of deodar wood. The region has emerged as a popular tourist destination besides being a pilgrimage site. Pilgrims from India and across the world throng this place particularly during the annual festival held in June.
