Kondagattu temple of Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Anjaneya Swamy. Located 35 km from Karimnagar, this temple is believed to be built by a cowherd in the 18th century. Apart from Lord Anjaneya Swamy, the temple also houses the sculptures of Lord Venkateswara and Goddess Lakshmi. The temple gained popularity after devotees started believing that people who have trouble bearing a child are blessed with one after 40 days of performing darshans in the temple.

History of Kondagattu Temple

The temple offers a breathtaking view surrounded by caves and the Rayuni fort on its north. The caves and the fort also offer a pleasant holiday spot. The story of the temple, according to local’s dates back to about 300 years ago, when a cowherd, Singam Sanjeevudu after losing one of his buffalo, came to this hilly area while searching for it. He soon fell into a deep sleep after a tiresome search.

It is believed that Lord Anjaneya Swamy appeared in his dream and told him the whereabouts of the lost buffalo, and when Sanjeeva woke up to start searching in the instructed direction, he found an enlightening idol of Anjaneya Swamy. He then built a small temple for Lord Anjaneya. There is a popular belief that people who do not have children get blessed with one by offering 40-day prayers to Anjaneya Swamy here. The temple also houses 45 Dharmashalas for the convenience of devotees. The temple is approximately 115 km from Nizamabad and 160 km from Hyderabad.

Architecture of Kondagattu Temple

The temple is situated on a hilltop amidst scenic surroundings and is visited by thousands of devotees annually. The temple is believed to have been constructed during the reign of the Kakatiya dynasty, and the temple's main deity is a 15-foot-tall idol of Lord Hanuman, which is supposed to be one of the largest idols of the deity in India.

The temple is also renowned for its unique architecture, blending the North and South Indian architectural styles. The temple's entrance gate is designed in the North Indian style, while the main shrine is built in the South Indian style.
The temple also houses several other deities, including Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Rama. The temple also has a holy pond, where devotees can take a dip and seek the blessings of the deities.
