Pampadum Shola National Park
It may be the smallest national park in Kerala, but Pampadum Shola National Park in the Idukki district can surprise visitors with its incredible collection of flora and fauna. Stretching over an area of around 12 sq km, the name 'Pampadum Shola' literally means ‘the forest where the snake dances’.
Located in the eastern part of Southern Western Ghats, the park is located at a distance of around 35 km from Munnar. The park experiences a misty and cloudy climate throughout the year and it receives heavy rain during the North-East monsoon.
With its wide range of habitats, the park is host to 22 species of trees, 74 species of herbs and shrubs, and 16 species of climbers. Elephants, Gaur, Leopard, Wild Boar, Sambhar, and Common Langur are some of the commonly spotted animals in the park.
The woods of the park have some amazing trekking trails. A trekking trail to Vattavada will give us a glimpse of the most picturesque parts of the lovely woods. The rolling green hills, the blue mountains, and the stunted trees of the shola forest will give you a lifetime experience.
