Chowara Beach

Nestled on the shores of the Arabian Sea in Thiruvananthapuram District, Chowara Beach is located about 10 km south of Kovalam. The stretch of golden sands is sheltered by numerous coconut trees, which secret the existence of the fishing village, a temple, and an old church. The beach is inhabited by a fishing village. Colorful boats are a common sight. Visitors like eagles and kites circle the skies above the sea near the beach.

Chowara beach houses a beautiful old-fashioned village. There is also a hill-top Ayyappa temple which overlooks the beach. A yearly 56-day long festival beginning on November 15 and ending on January 15 is attended by many. The antique Analothbhava Matha church is also located on the beach.

Vizhinjam harbor is another tourist attraction. The Azhimalathura beach nearby is also worth a visit. It is the only seashore in Kerala not eroded by sea even in the monsoon. In contrast, the sea is receding here. This beach has the revered Aazhimala Shiva Temple as a major shrine.
