Trump Responds to Report of Elon Musk Receiving Top-Secret China War Plans
On 20th March, 2025 former President Donald Trump dismissed a report from *The New York Times*, which claimed that Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), would be given access to the Pentagon's highly classified plans for a potential conflict with China. The report cited an unnamed official who said that Musk would be briefed on China-related military matters.
Trump quickly took to his Truth Social platform to refute the story, labeling it as fake news. He wrote, "Once again, the Fake News is spreading lies, this time from the Failing New York Times." They falsely claimed that Elon Musk would be going to the Pentagon tomorrow to be briefed on a potential 'war with China.'
"China won’t even be mentioned or discussed," he stated. He further criticized the media for spreading falsehoods, saying, "It’s disgraceful that the discredited media can fabricate such lies. The story is completely untrue!!!"
The New York Times report had suggested that Musk would attend a top-secret briefing at the Pentagon on Friday, where he would be briefed on U.S. military strategies regarding a potential conflict with China.
The briefing was said to consist of 20-30 slides detailing the U.S. military’s strategy regarding China, including threat assessments and possible military actions that would require Presidential approval. A Pentagon spokesperson, Sean Parnell, confirmed that Musk was invited to the Pentagon by Secretary Hegseth and that it was merely a visit.
The briefing would be led by Hegseth, accompanied by acting Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Admiral Christopher W. Grady and Indo-Pacific Command head Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, who would detail the U.S. strategy in the event of a military conflict with China. The report emphasized that the Pentagon's war plans, known as O-plans (Operational Plans), are among the U.S. military's most highly classified and closely guarded secrets.
