Meeran Mosque
One of the most revered religious spots by Muslims; the Meeran Mosque was built about three hundred and fifty years ago. It serves as the oldest mosque in Pondicherry with a distinct type of architecture.
Established by the Arcod Nawabs in Gothic Islamic style, four pillars support the dome of the structure. The beauty of the shrine is further enhanced by the placement of Bronze Kallasa on the front-facing minaret. This sacred place also serves as the resting place of the graves of the one who built it and another of Suubhi Erai Perriar Mullah.
History of Meeran Mosque
The Meeran Mosque, also known as Meerapalli, is the 2nd oldest mosque in Pondicherry. It was built by the Arcot Nawabs in the late 17th century.
Architecture of Meeran Mosque
The origin of the Meeran Mosque dates back to the 17th century and it was built in the Gothic Islamic architectural style. The entire structure of the mosque is beautifully adorned with four lofty pillars which also provide support to the mosque.
Adding a unique charm to the resplendent architecture of the mosque are the two minarets with a bronze Kalasa, which is placed on the top of the construction. Along with that the complex also includes a Madrasa where kids come to learn about the religion.
