On M.G. Road, the Kanniga Parameswari Temple is devoted to Goddess Shakti - the goddess of power in Hindu Mythology. Goddess Shakti is the manifestation of Goddess Durga who is counted amongst the prime deities of Pondicherry. Besides the significance, the temple is also known for its unique architecture which boasts a perfect blend of both traditional Deccan architecture of India and the French style of design.

Moreover, the arched temple walls are beautifully adorned with the designs of angels and various heavenly creatures. Besides, the magnificent architecture of Kanniga Parameswari Temple includes stained glass panes that are typifications of French shrines.
