ISKCON Temple Pondicherry
In the Krishna Nagar locality of Pondicherry, ISKCON Pondicherry is a Hindu revered temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and his consort, colloquially known as 'Ashta Devi'. More precisely, the center is a spiritual society, the name 'ISKCON' literally translating to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.
The idea of the spiritual center was formed by Sri A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1966 and the first temple of its kind came into existence in New York. However, the community has risen to 400 temples, 40 rural communities, and over 100 vegetarian restaurants.
ISKCON Pondicherry boasts impressive architecture and exquisite statues of Lord Krishna and his consort. Besides, the entire atmosphere has a spiritual vibe to it. The temple always reverberates with sublime chants of 'Hare Krishna Hare Rama'. The shrine promotes the principles of God's consciousness, self-realization, unity, and peace.
History of ISKCON Temple Pondicherry
ISKCON goes back to the roots of Vedic or Hinduism culture. The philosophy, beliefs, principles, and teachings have been derived from the ‘Bhagavat Purana’ and ‘Bhagavat Gita’. These Sanskrit textbooks come from the period of Gaudiya-Vaishnava Sampradaya, which then sole motto was monotheistic religion. Therefore we can conclude that the base of ISKCON builds upon spreading the strength of one GOD to everyone.
In day-to-day life, we’ve come across many names of GOD like Jesus, Shiv Ji, Allah, etc. Their ultimate milestone is to induce love for their GOD through chanting a prayer in the form of greater diligence.
The idea was brought to light by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. The first-ever temple was built in New York City in 1966, since then it has expanded to 400 temples. The community has more than 100 vegetarian restaurants and 40 rural shelters.
