Bakkhali Beach

Bakkhali Beach

Bakkhali Beach is located on a deltaic island, one of the many scattered across southern Bengal. The one on which this beach is located protrudes into the Bay of Bengal. Crescent-shaped and facing the south side, it offers wonderful views of sunrise and sunset. The beach is not as crowded as the other beaches.

The beach gets its particularly beautiful appearance from the dense mangrove forest overlooking it. There is also a market at the beach where you can lay your hands on necklaces, bags, and other items made from shells. While visiting Bakkhali Sea Beach, do not forget to try the delicious seafood.

The long, wide beach of Bakkhali stretches from Bakkhali to Frazergunj. The water and the beach appear grey, as the land slopes into the Bay of Bengal, but the land and the water are both clean. The beach is strong enough to bear cycles and cars, but some spots are soft and sinkable. The mangrove forest near the beaches has no tigers, but is nonetheless a tourist spot.

Fraserganj is beside Bakhali, and the beach is continuous with Bakkhali sea beach. It is the same 8 kilometers stretch of sea beach that runs from Bakkhali to Frasergunj. The name is Fraserganj came from Lt. Governor of Bengal Andrew Frazer, who built a bungalow near the beach nearly 100 years back. The bungalow is now in a dilapidated state and almost swallowed by the encroaching sea. But the beach lined by coconut groves and fishing boats became popular among city dwellers.
