It is believed that Faridabad was named after Baba Farid, a popular Sufi saint. There is a great bustle all year round of pilgrims coming from different regions to this place.

The tomb of Baba Farid is a popular tourist attraction point in the city. The tomb or the shrine was built by the Mughals after the death of Baba Farid in 1265 A.D. It is made up of white marble having two gateways, facing east and north, called Nuri Darwaza and Bahishti Darwaza respectively.

The Bahishti Darwaza is made of silver and decorated with floral designs. The tomb has two graves, one of Baba Farid and the second of his elder son. These two graves are covered with green chaddars and flowers. The area inside the tomb is too small, a maximum of ten people can adjust here.

There is a restriction on the entry of the ladies in the tomb. The shrine is administered by the Auqaf Department and free food called langar is served to the visitors every day. It is a miraculous place. A large number of people visit the tomb to seek the blessings of the great Sufi saint.

The complex also houses a big mosque and a small area for females. The tomb shines bright during the nights and opens throughout the year for visitors. Mehfil-e-Sama is organized every Thursday evening outside the tomb where Qawwals from different parts of the country participate and entertain the crowd. This grand evening is attended by hundreds of people.
