Netaji Flag Hoisting Memorial

Netaji Flag Hoisting Memorial

During World War 2, Andaman went through a major transformation. Japanese took possession of Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 1942 and a year later, the Provisional Government and the INA.

This was when Subhash Chandra Bose visited here and received a ceremonial welcome. During his visit to Andaman on 30th December 1943, he hoisted the Tricolor for the first time on free Indian soil, much before India attained Independence declaring the island as a free territory from British rule.

Currently, the place where he hoisted the flag stands today as a great memorial and one of the best places to visit over a heritage tour to Andaman. It was built by the Andaman Club as a mute testimony of Netaji's visit to the islands.
