Angling In Assam
Of the many adventure activities that can be done in this northeastern state, Angling is one of the most popular things to do in Assam. A sought-after adventure sport, it allures a huge number of angling enthusiasts. This activity has been popular since the British era. The most popular spot for angling in Assam is Jia Bhoroli. This is a mighty snow-fed river that traverses down Arunachal Pradesh's mountainous valleys, swirling through the lush Balipara Reserve Forest, creating rapids and gorges to join the enormous Brahmaputra River.
Nameri National Park in upper Assam is placed in the foothills of the Himalayas. The Jia Bhoroli forms the border of this national park, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a part of Project Tiger. Entering the park through its southern periphery, this river is home to Golden Mahseer. Finally, the river hits the Assam plains near Bhalukpung.
Angling in Assam lets you catch several fishes such as Golden Mahseer, Indian Trout, Murral, Chocolate Mahseer, and Goonch. Jia Bhorolo in Assam also hosts the annual Angling competition. The biggest catch of Golden Mahseer was in the year 1997. As the river is around the national park, the activity is regulated, and every catch is reported. Wildlife safari at Nameri can be clubbed with Angling.
The seasonal fishing camp is at Potash and is just an hour's drive from Tezpur. However, the anglers have other choices also, such as tourist lodges at Tezpur or Tourist Bungalows of the Government of Assam in Bhalukpong. One of the best ways of angling all along the river's length, from Bhalukpong to Potasali, a stretch of 26 km, is by using an inflatable rubber dinghy.
