Guru Nanak Jayanti holds immense religious and spiritual significance and the day is purely dedicated to honoring the first Guru of Sikhs. This day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Ji and devotees offer prayers to the Guru with utmost devotion and deep faith. The day is celebrated with great pomp and show across the country and even outside the country where Hindu and Sikh community people reside.
This day is mainly celebrated by the Sikh community, but according to the scriptures, it is not particularly connected only with the Sikhs. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was a spiritual leader in the 15th century, so all the Hindu community admired his teachings and learned many lessons from him and his stories. He is known for his contribution to society and was always against discrimination. He never believed in caste and religion but taught the lesson of being ONE or united.
Guru Nanak Jayanti: Life and History
Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born on April 15, 1469, in the village of Talwandi (present-day Nankana Sahib, Pakistan). His father's name was Mehta Kalu, a Hindu Khatri, and Mata Tripta was his mother. Guru Nanak was raised in a simple household but showed a deep spiritual inclination from a young age. From a young age, he got into spirituality and often used to question discrimination, inequality, and some unethical rituals and practices. At the age of 30, he transformed and started enlightening the people with the fact that no one is Muslim, no one is Hindu and Christian, they all are the same and humanity is above everything.

Guru Nanak Jayanti is also celebrated as Guru Purab and Prakash Utsav and the celebration takes place across the globe where Sikh and Hindu community people reside. This day is celebrated with great grandeur and enthusiasm. People perform various puja rituals and spiritual activities on this sacred day. Visiting Gurudwara is one of the main rituals, and a large number of devotees visit the holy place where they light a diya, candle and so sewa, do charity and make donations, and give their money for the langar distribution. Some devotees organize Nagar Kirtan and the procession is taken out with a large number of people in which they carry Guru Granth Sahib Ji on their head and recite the Gurbani. Sharing the teachings of Guru Nanak Ji is also one of the important parts of this festival and they share it. Performing Ardaas plays an important role in this auspicious festival. Many followers of Guru Nanak Dev Ji organize the Akhand Paath in their homes and seek the blessings of the Guru.
